Choline Chloride is formed by the reaction of TMA and Ethylene oxide with hydrochloric acid. In the oil industry Choline Chloride is used as a polyamine shale inhibitor and eco-friendly clay stabilizer. Choline Chloride Shale stabilizer reduces the swelling of sensitive shales and drill cuttings. Due to the powerful effect Choline Chloride has on active solids, it should only be added to: mud systems containing low concentrations of active solids, bentonite-free systems or freshly prepared low-solids systems containing a minimum amount of pre-hydrated bentonite. These systems should have a methylene blue capacity of less than 35.6 kg/m3 (12.5 lb/bbl) with 5.7 to 14.3 kg/m3 (2 to 5 lb/bbl) of pre-hydrated bentonite for filtration control. Choline Chloride is compatible with most drilling fluid additives, and is especially suited for use in freshly prepared, low-solids polymer systems.

It is most effective when the use of organic thinners, such as Lignosulphonate, is minimized. Normal concentration of Choline Chloride range from 11.4 to 22.8 kg/m3 (4 to 8 lb/bbl) depending on hole size, rate of penetration, interval length and reactivity of the shale. A minimum concentration of 11.4 kg/m3 (4 lb/bbl) is required for the product to be effective. One lb/bbl of Choline Chloride contributes 508 mg/L chlorides. Choline Chloride has been shown to be readily biodegradable according to OECD (93 % biodegradation within 14 days, MITI –I test). The result of Choline Chloride was confirmed by BOD test and hence can be considered for offshore applications.

Bioassay is available upon request. Handle as an industrial chemical, wearing protective equipment and observing the precautions as described on the Transportation and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)

CHOLINE CHLORIDE is packaged in 220 Kgs Drums.
